The Venue History

Second Empire (1868) · Second Empire

Inhabited since the Gallo-Roman era, Baronville was originally a seigneurial residence built to control the Voise valley. The site was fortified during the Hundred Years' War, and tradition holds it was liberated from the English by troops under Joan of Arc. In 1623, a pleasure chateau was built by the de Montescot family. Through marriage the seigneury passed to the de Lattaignant family, then was acquired in 1783 by the Marquis d'Aligre, First President of the Paris Parliament. In 1868, his great-grandson the Marquis de Pomereu d'Aligre had the old chateau demolished and the current one built during the Second Empire, designed by architect Leon de Sanges, who was also working at the Chateau de Bagatelle in Paris. During the 20th century, Baronville hosted wounded soldiers convalescing between 1914 and 1918, and was occupied three times by German armies between 1940 and 1944. Today Baronville belongs to Count and Countess Aymeric de Rouge, who are passionately dedicated to restoring and embellishing the estate.
