The Venue History

15th century (first written trace), 17th century transformation into château · Mansart-style roof with two wings

Listed Historic Monument

The first written trace of the Groirie dates back to the fifteenth century as a small agricultural domain. In the seventeenth century, the Famille de la Rivière transformed it into a château. The property passed through several families including de Samson de Martigny (from 1714), then Enlard de Grandval, and Bayard de la Vingtrie. During the French Revolution, the Marquis de Samson de Lorchère financed the opposition forces and was arrested in 1793. An important battle took place near La Groirie where 1,200 were killed, and 300 officers were shot in the courtyard — a marble plaque commemorates this. In 2010, the current owners fell in love with the property and spent ten years restoring it into an exceptional reception venue and 4-star hotel.
