Set in the Loire-Atlantique countryside in western France, Château du Pordor offers couples the rare chance to celebrate within the ancient walls of a privately owned château dating to the 13th century. Originally a fortified residence, the château’s stone-built reception rooms, including the oldest part of the structure, now host intimate and grand celebrations alike.
One of the most distinctive elements is the open-roof chapel where ceremonies are held under the sky — a dramatic and memorable setting overlooking the lake. The property’s exclusivity and authenticity attract couples seeking a weekend-long wedding experience with complete privacy. Events unfold across different parts of the estate — from welcome dinners and lakeside ceremonies to receptions in the historic château and brunches on the terrace.
Located near the picturesque town of Redon and within reach of both Paris and Nantes, Château du Pordor offers a French countryside wedding imbued with history, tranquillity, and intimacy.
Accommodation
Château du Pordor accommodates up to 30 guests on-site, offering couples the chance to share their wedding weekend with close family and friends in one place. The accommodation is set within the estate itself, creating a relaxed and convivial home atmosphere. Each room is designed for comfort rather than grandeur, supporting the venue’s philosophy of intimacy over scale. Breakfasts are served in the château, and additional accommodation is available through a nearby partner property, Château Le Brossay, just ten minutes away, which offers space for 52 guests and includes a swimming pool.
Amenities
Amenities at the venue are tailored to multi-day celebrations. Couples can host cocktail hour on the expansive 250 m² lakeside terrace, wedding dinners in the historic château reception rooms, and late-night dancing in the ballroom with a stage, open until 4am. Additional features include a kids’ room with TV and video, the open-roof chapel, and access to a romantic ceremony site above the lake. The venue also provides a wedding coordinator and in-house DJ, as well as support with local vendors.
From Paris: Château du Pordor is approximately 2 hours by TGV to Redon station, followed by a 10-minute drive to the venue, making it ideal for couples seeking a countryside setting without venturing too far from the capital.
From London: The most efficient route is via direct flight to Nantes, followed by a 1-hour drive to the château. Nantes offers regular flights from major UK airports, making it convenient for international guests.
In addition to weddings, Château du Pordor serves as a cultural and community gathering space throughout the year. The estate regularly hosts live musical performances within its historic setting, bringing together local artists and guests. It also opens its gates during the festive season for an annual Christmas market, transforming the château into a vibrant winter destination filled with tradition and local craftsmanship. These events reflect the château’s continued role as a place of celebration and cultural exchange, maintaining its spirit as a living property that honours both history and community throughout the changing seasons.
