The Venue History
Renaissance (16th century) · Renaissance with medieval elements
Once described as 'the most beautiful chateau in the world' by 16th-century chroniclers, Chateau de Vallery was designed by Pierre Lescot, the architect of the Louvre, commissioned by Jacques d'Albon. It hosted the Princes of Condé and witnessed royal intrigues including King Henri IV's romantic escapades with Charlotte de Montmorency. The property inspired Madame de Lafayette's La Princesse de Clèves, described as 'the castle of utter seduction and love'. The Grande Galerie was built between 1548 and 1560. The church on the estate contains the mausoleum of Henri II de Condé (1588–1646), created by sculptor Gilles Guérin.
