The Venue History

late medieval, late 14th century · Late medieval with Renaissance elements; imposing spiral staircase, mullioned windows, two conical watchtowers

The first foundations of the manor date to 1393. In 1478, the first recorded lord of Vacheresses, Maître Fleurant des Feugerets, is named. The property passed through several noble families over the centuries, including the de Graffard family from Normandy, then Diane de Caumont-Lauzun (widow of Armand de Bautru, Comte de Nogent-le-Roi) between 1677 and 1678. Following forced sales to cover debts, the estate fell to the illustrious Noailles family in the late 18th century, remaining with them until 1873. It later became a residence of leisure, associated with notable cultural figures including illustrator Joseph Hémard, writer and theatre director Gilbert Dupé, and internationally renowned marine artist Michèle Battut. Since 2017, owners Frédérique and Philippe Nikly have undertaken restoration works and opened the manor for family celebrations and weddings.
