About the Venue

Set in the heart of the Charente countryside, Domaine des Étangs is a storied 13th-century château originally built by the knights of Chasteignier de la Roche-Posay. Today, it is part of the Auberge Resorts Collection and offers an extraordinary setting for luxury weddings in Massignac, southwest France. Spanning 2,500 acres of private forests, lakes, meadows, and formal gardens, the estate is a sanctuary of tranquility and artistry. Surrounded by picturesque farmland and within reach of the historic towns of Cognac, Saint-Émilion, and Pomerol, the Domaine presents a location steeped in culture and natural beauty.

The château and its accompanying stone outbuildings house a curated art collection of 81 works and a sculpture garden with 10 large-scale installations. With exclusive use of the estate, couples can host their ceremony beside the lake, dine beneath the stars in Château gardens, and enjoy a destination wedding where nature, cuisine, and heritage are fully celebrated.

Accommodation

Guests can stay across three unique settings: seven suites in the château, four seasonal suites in La Longère, and six private Métairie Cottages. Each château suite is named after a planet, offering individual artistic styling with rare furnishings and pieces from the private collection of Garance Primat. The Longère suites evoke seasonal themes and feature two-story layouts with private terraces.

The Métairie Cottages provide complete seclusion, featuring oversized living areas, fully equipped kitchens, and views of the countryside. With capacity for up to 60 guests, accommodation is ideal for exclusive-use weddings with extended stays for family and friends.

Amenities

Couples and their guests enjoy a full suite of high-end facilities across the estate. The wellness centre, Le Moulin, is housed in a preserved mill with five treatment rooms, and the château features an indoor thermal bathhouse with steam rooms and a hydrospa pool.

A floating tennis court, two pools (indoor and outdoor), three libraries, a Cognac lounge, and cycling and hiking trails enhance the experience. Dining is seasonal and locally sourced at the estate’s signature restaurant, Dyades. Outdoor art installations, a boutique, and private picnic spots by the lake further elevate the setting for a multi-day wedding celebration.

Getting there

From Paris: Domaine des Étangs is approximately 2 hours by TGV from Paris Montparnasse to Angoulême, followed by a 45-minute drive to the estate in Massignac. Limoges Airport, 45 minutes away, also offers domestic flights.

From London: Travel from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord via Eurostar, transfer to Montparnasse for the TGV to Angoulême, then drive 45 minutes. Alternatively, fly to Limoges Airport from London Stansted for a direct 1.5-hour flight, followed by a short drive.

Additional offerings beyond weddings

Domaine des Étangs caters to a variety of private events, offering multiple spaces for corporate retreats, wellness seminars, anniversaries, and private celebrations. The Octave reception barn, with its excellent acoustics, is ideal for music-led events, while Monade and Ciel provide intimate meeting rooms.

Le Moulin’s spa menu can be tailored for group wellness retreats, and the estate’s setting encourages reconnection through nature walks, garden dining, and lakeside activities. Guests can also explore curated art tours, enjoy cooking demonstrations, or host cocktail receptions on the La Laiterie Terrace or in the Dragon Barn.
