Château de Villèle, once a wine-producing estate held by the Castillon family for five generations, sits between the Camargue and the Cévennes near Nîmes, Avignon, Montpellier and Arles. This wedding venue near Montpellier is set within a 15-hectare park lined with two-hundred-year-old plane trees, creating striking scenes for ceremonies and receptions across multiple settings.
Centre stage is the historic Orangerie, an eye-catching glass structure encircled by roughly 170 sqm of open space that can also host dinner. Beneath the tower, a 500 sqm zone suits ceremonies or outdoor dining, backed from early June by an eight-metre-tall flowering laurel. The plane-tree courtyard spans about 2,000 sqm and is a favoured ceremony site.
Villèle is primarily an outdoor venue with a large indoor fallback: the old winery accommodates up to 100 guests, subject to prior discussion. Season runs May to October. You are free to choose all suppliers; there is no corkage. Friday–Monday access is included, with on-site coordination and secured guest parking.
Accommodation:
On-site sleeping is currently for 4 guests: two very large château suites are included for two nights (bridal preparations and overnighting). Optionally, the couple can use one or both suites; use of the entire château wing—both suites plus two additional bedrooms can be discussed.
The estate is also renovating an outbuilding to add 4–5 further rooms (to be confirmed). Numerous hotels and guesthouses lie close to the property, and the French Mediterranean coast sits about 25–30 minutes by car. The interiors of the main house are accessible in a limited way for preparations, photo sessions, and as a technical area for caterers and suppliers.
Amenities:
Event areas include the Orangerie (evening reception site), a 170 sqm terrace, a 500 sqm tower-side lawn, and a circa-2,000 sqm plane-tree courtyard. The pool zone covers about 1,000 sqm with a 12 m pool ideal for Sunday brunch or food trucks. The old winery is the designated indoor fallback (up to 100 guests; usage conditions apply).
Inclusions span 150 m of guinguette-style string lights, kitchen access for caterers, secured on-site parking, and reception/coordination of suppliers. Capacity guides: up to 120 for wedding dinners and 150 for cocktails. A basic package of outdoor furniture and lighting can be provided if needed.
From Paris: The quickest is TGV/OUIGO from Paris-Gare de Lyon to Nîmes (fastest timetables from 2 h 50), then a 15–20 minute drive about 13–14 km to Uchaud and 2 Grande Terre. Taxis and hire cars are available at Nîmes Centre/Pont-du-Gard stations.
From London: When operating, the fastest is a direct flight to Nîmes–Alès–Camargue–Cévennes Airport (route “London” listed by the airport), then roughly a 30-minute drive to the château. Alternatively, Eurostar to Paris and TGV to Nîmes provides a rail option.
This estate also accommodates baptisms, birthdays, family celebrations, seminars, and meetings. The Orangerie provides a striking indoor-outdoor backdrop for dinners or late-night parties, while the plane-tree courtyard and tower-side lawn handle welcome drinks or ceremonies.
Sunday access includes the pool area (around 1,000 sqm) for relaxed brunches; supplier freedom supports food trucks or tastings. Kitchen access, 150 m of festoon lighting, and on-site coordination streamline logistics. With easy regional access and plentiful nearby lodging, multi-day retreats are practical across the May–October season.
