About This Venue
An 1830 Provençal bastide on a 300-hectare organic wine estate in the Var
Château des Demoiselles is an 1830 Provençal bastide hidden in the Esclans valley of the Var, on a 300-hectare organic wine estate that the Bertin family rebuilt around the original Domaine Saint-Michel d'Esclans. The bastide is privatised in full for weddings: a courtyard sheltered by century-old plane trees seats up to 120 guests for an outdoor reception, with the bastide interior and a fitted Provençal kitchen accepting up to 40 indoors for a standing cocktail dinner. Seven bedrooms across the bastide sleep 14, and the wider estate carries Agriculture Biologique organic certification, HVE Level 3, and a Natura 2000 designation across vines, forest and olive groves. The Venue History
19th century · Provençal bastide
Built in 1830 in the heart of the Esclans valley, the bastide was a former property of the Grimaldi family of Monaco. The Bertin family, the current owners, first held the estate between 1956 and 1978 under the name Domaine Saint-Michel d'Esclans. After a long absence, the family returned in 2005, took possession of the bastide and the surrounding vineyard, and renamed the estate Château des Demoiselles. The name honours the Demoiselles de Provence, the daughters of the last Count of Provence and Toulouse, who all went on to become queens of European houses. The estate also played a role in the Liberation of Provence: on 15 August 1944, American paratroopers landed in its fields. Aurélie Bertin officially took the helm in 2007 and has run both family properties, Château Sainte Roseline and Château des Demoiselles, for over thirteen years.

The estate sits between the red-rock Estérel massif and the Massif des Maures, with vines, forest and olive groves spread across a Natura 2000 zone in the Esclans valley. Red clay and chalk soils run through the property; the bastide grounds open onto views of the vines, the swimming pool, the olive grove, or the Roquebrune rock depending on aspect.
