The Venue History
12th century onwards · Medieval fortress with Renaissance and 18th-century modifications
Château d'Agel dates from the 12th century and was of strategic importance during the Cathar Crusade. In 1210, it was nearly destroyed by fire during Simon de Montfort's siege of Minerve, but was restored by Guiraud de Pépieux. The castle passed through numerous feudal lords until it was sold to Jean d'Augier of Narbonne in 1764. The Ecal family acquired the property and undertook extensive restoration beginning in the 1960s, preserving its medieval character while introducing modern amenities.
