About This Venue

Where Victor Louis's architecture meets organic winemaking in the Graves

Drive twenty minutes south of Bordeaux into the Graves wine country and you reach Portets, where Château de l'Hospital sits behind stone walls on a four-hectare estate of parkland, mature trees, and working vines. Victor Louis, the architect behind Bordeaux's Grand-Théâtre, built the château between 1787 and 1789, and it earned Monument Historique classification in 1973. After years of abandonment, new owners took it on in 2012 and spent five years bringing it back, with a focus on sustainability and respect for what was already here.

Couples book the entire estate in one of two formats: a one-night weeknight privatisation (Tuesday to Wednesday), or a full Friday-to-Monday weekend. The 140 m² Orangery Hall seats 120 for dinner and stays open for dancing until 4 AM. Four ground-floor lounges, a mezzanine overlooking the hall, and a walled park with a stream give you a range of settings for ceremonies, cocktails, and the quieter moments in between. The estate runs its own organic vineyard in the Graves appellation, and couples can arrange wine tastings and blending workshops for their guests.

Monument Historique (1973)

Victor Louis, the architect behind Bordeaux's Grand-Théâtre, built the château between 1787 and 1789 for a Bordeaux parliamentary family. It earned its Monument Historique classification in 1973 and then sat largely unused for decades. New owners took it on in 2012 and spent five years bringing it back, restoring the stone, the parkland, the orangery, and the working vines with a focus on sustainability and a light hand on what was already there.
