The Venue History

11th and 13th centuries · Medieval castle enriched during Renaissance and 18th century periods

Inscrit Monument Historique (1974)

Château de Goudourville traces its origins to a fortress built in 1081 by Hugues de Gasques; in 1278 Ségui de Gasques is recorded as lord of the château. It was besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1211 and attacked by the Black Prince in 1360, then enriched during the Renaissance and the 18th century. Charles IX visited with Catherine de Médicis in 1562. Marguerite de Lustrac married Geoffroy de Caumont, a companion of Henri IV, and in October 1587 the future Henri IV gave Diane d'Andoins twenty-two enemy flags captured at the Battle of Coutras. The d'Affis family held the château in the 17th century. In 2020 the French Heritage Society awarded a grant towards restoring the Renaissance spiral staircase and main tower.
