Classified historic monument

Château de Poudenas was built in the 13th century by the lords of Poudenas, vassals of Edward I Plantagenet, to guard the valley of the Gélise 50 metres below at the edge of the Landes forest. It served as a military stronghold until the 16th century, when mullioned windows were added. A century later a full redesign turned the château into the setting of an Italian villa. It is now a classified historic monument, held by the de Nadaillac family.
