Autumn Champagne Editorial: White Orchids and a Wedding at Chateau Comtesse Lafond

A Franco-American autumn wedding at Chateau Comtesse Lafond on the Avenue de Champagne: white orchids, calla, fine-art editorial by Johnny Photographe.

By Sophie Laurent | Published 18 May 2026

The concept was simple to state and harder to render: a refined autumn wedding in the heart of the Champagne region. At Chateau Comtesse Lafond, a Napoleon III chateau on the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay. Jane and Arthur are a Franco-American couple who met at business school in the United States.

Arthur grew up in the Champagne region and Jane had long imagined her wedding in France. The shoot turned the wedding day into an editorial brief and ran it through Champagne's seasonal palette: white, green, pale pink, with small touches of black for restraint.

The chateau, a fairytale Napoleon III facade with twin red brick and cream stone turrets, slate mansard roofs and a central clock, sits directly on the Avenue de Champagne. Its grand park hosted the ceremony; its exposed-brick wine cellar held the reception. The day moved between these two spatial registers, outside refined park-and-lawn formality, then down into the cellar where bottles of Comtesse Lafond champagne lined the walls beside the wedding cake.

The shoot came from Johnny Photographe in a fine-art register, favouring natural soft warm light and using the cellar's character as the inflection point of the gallery. Vows were exchanged in English (an American tradition important to the bride), florals leaned into Champagne harvest references with grapes, figs.

Pomegranate set among the table arrangements, and two gowns by Cymbeline Reims, one ball-gown silhouette for the ceremony and one halter-neck for the reception, carried the wardrobe arc across the gallery's two register changes.

Getting Ready

The morning ran in one of the chateau's rose-papered upstairs rooms, where soft warm light from the wallpaper itself shaped the editorial register. The makeup artist applied a natural pink lip with a fine brush in close detail.

The bride fastened a pearl drop earring with the diamond bracelet catching the same warm light, the veil already gathered behind her. The first gown was a lace-top satin ball gown with cap sleeves. The train spread across parquet as the bride paused with the calla lily bouquet in the salon, arched windows revealing autumn trees beyond.

A separate frame caught the bride twirling the satin ball gown out on the green lawn with autumn leaves scattered across the grass and the chateau's white stone and slate-roofed wing rising behind her. This was the shoot's editorial pivot: the gown reading at full sweep against the architecture. Day's palette set in a single frame for the rest of the gallery to follow.

First Look

The first-look set ran on the chateau's terrace and at the foot of its wooden staircase, with the gilded lantern chandelier and tapestry framing the interior shots. Arthur stood in the arched doorway holding the calla lily bouquet as Jane descended the staircase behind him, his black tuxedo set against the gilded room beyond.

An elevated frame caught Jane approaching from behind on the stone terrace, her satin train spreading dramatically between two conical topiaries with the manicured garden and white balustrade visible below. A third frame held the look itself: Arthur smiling as he saw Jane for the first time.

Bouquet still in his hand, the lace-top satin gown and veil reading at full visual weight behind him. The first-look composition leaned on the chateau's symmetrical formality more than on candid expression, and stayed in this controlled editorial register through the rest of the gallery.

Ceremony

The ceremony ran outdoors on the chateau's lawn beneath golden autumn trees, framed by two tall white floral arrangements set on plinths flanking the couple. Vows were read in English from a personalised vow booklet titled "A mon Mari" with a black ribbon binding, a small detail that captured the Franco-American crossover of the day. Jane held the booklet open as she read; the lace bodice and blonde waves caught the same soft warm light running through the rest of the shoot.

The ring exchange was photographed in close detail: Jane placing the band on Arthur's finger, then Arthur sliding the diamond wedding band onto Jane's. Soft green lawn and autumn foliage blurred in the background of both frames. The composition stayed reserved, allowing the architecture and the autumn light to do most of the visual work around them.

The couple's portrait set ran across the chateau's grounds with the autumn trees and turreted facade as the recurring backdrop. 1 frame caught Arthur twirling Jane on the green lawn with the slate roofs and turrets of Chateau Comtesse Lafond framed behind, autumn-coloured trees surrounding the estate.

Another caught the couple walking hand in hand past one of the chateau's white stone corner towers, the veil and train flowing behind Jane as autumn foliage coloured the trees. A close detail of the bridal bouquet, white calla lilies, white orchids, and trailing green amaranthus, held against Jane's satin skirt and Arthur's black tuxedo set the florals at frame-centre.

A garden frame ran with Jane looking over her shoulder smiling as she and Arthur embraced, the lace cap-sleeve bodice and flowing veil catching the autumn light. The composition reads consistently for editorial use across the set.

Reception

The reception moved guests down into Chateau Comtesse Lafond's exposed-brick wine cellar. The couple arrived through the arched doorway of the chateau with arms raised, tall autumn floral arrangements in white planters flanking the entrance. In the cellar, Jane changed into a halter-neck reception dress and Arthur opened champagne beside a coupe glass tower set in front of the three-tier white wedding cake.

A high-celebration frame caught Jane raising her arm as Arthur poured into the coupe tower, bottles of Comtesse Lafond champagne stacked beside them. Brick wall and orchid-decorated cake holding the composition. A refined Champagne menu, scallop tart with champagne cream and caviar, roasted veal fillet with truffle jus and mousseline. Aged cheese selection from Champagne-Ardenne, ran through the dinner before the cake-cutting moved the night to its final beat in the cellar.

The day's design line ran on white, green, and pale pink with autumn-harvest accents pulling the Champagne reference forward. The outdoor reception table was dressed in white linen with green napkins and gold cutlery. The low centrepiece combined green hydrangeas, white anthurium, blush roses, and white orchids in a ceramic bowl. By clusters of fresh grapes, figs, and pomegranate to anchor the regional theme.

A tall wild autumn floral arrangement of white orchids, green bells of Ireland, red autumn foliage, and trailing amaranthus stood on a white plinth beside the grand arched doorway. The three-tier white wedding cake, decorated with white orchids and green anthurium, was displayed against the exposed brick wall of the cellar beside bottles of Comtesse Lafond champagne. The cake-and-bottle pairing was the shoot's single clearest visual claim on the Champagne region. For couples drawn to the same regional positioning, browse vineyard wedding venues in Champagne.

Flat Lays

The flat-lay frames carried the stationery and accessories of the day in the same green-and-pale-pink palette. One flat lay placed the bespoke stationery suite, Save the Date with an illustration of Chateau Comtesse Lafond, RSVP cards, vow booklets, beside the white calla lily boutonniere. Diamond engagement ring. The wedding bands on a soft surface.

A second flat lay arranged the full suite on green velvet: RSVP, save-the-date, vow booklets with bespoke chateau illustrations. Diamond rings, rose petals, and a blush ribbon running across the composition.

The third frame extended the inventory: stationery on green velvet, plus perfume, diamond bracelet, additional rings. Blush ribbon, and white flowers, every piece carrying the bespoke chateau illustration that ran across the wedding's identity. Front façade of Château Comtesse Lafond with twin turrets in Épernay

Chateau Comtesse Lafond sits directly on the Avenue de Champagne in Épernay. Napoleon III chateau with twin red brick and cream stone turrets capped by slate conical roofs. Central clock face, and an ornate balcony. A drone frame caught the full property from above, the slate mansard roofs anchored against surrounding autumn foliage and manicured lawns. A symmetrical ground-level frame captured the facade in its fairytale register.

Inside, the chateau's character is built on the architectural reading rather than scale: arched doorways, gilded lantern chandeliers, tapestries on the walls, exposed-brick wine cellars below, rose-papered upstairs rooms above. The grand park handles outdoor ceremonies; the cellar handles wine-led dinners, a clean spatial split between the two registers a Champagne wedding can want. The chateau sits geographically inside the Marne, edited under northern France for FWS routing.
