Black-Tie Wedding at Chateau Lacanaud

Nestled in the picturesque French countryside, this enchanting estate sets the perfect stage for a romantic celebration. As the sun sets over the sprawling vineyards, the château comes alive, welcoming guests to an unforgettable evening… This is the wedding of Victoria and Matt, a British couple who decided to tie the knot in France. From delectable haute cuisine to champagne pyramid, each element was gracefully captured by the photographer Mark from Awardweddings, rendering this day at Château Lacanaud a cherished and beguiling memory.

What is your story and how was your proposal:

Matt and I met in London, where we both worked, eight years ago. We bonded over our love of travelling, rugby and food. After four years together we took the decision to move to our current home in Switzerland. When the world opened up after phase one of COVID, we both went to Florence for a long weekend where Matt proposed in the Boboli Gardens after pretending to tie his shoelaces!

Why did you choose France for your destination wedding:

We knew we wanted an overseas wedding but needed somewhere that friends from across the globe could fly into easily. France was the ideal spot for us as it offers not only beautiful properties like Chateau Lacanaud but also great weather, food and wine.

Why did you choose this chateau:

We viewed several venues but with Chateau Lacanaud, it was love at first sight. What truly won us over though was the owners, Jonny & Liz. They took time to show us around the venue and imagine how our wedding could come to life. They were always so attentive and kind and still to this day we keep in touch.

What did you like about it:

Dreaming of a wedding in France, it’s hard to find somewhere that lives up to your expectations but after viewing multiple venues, Chateau Lacanaud, did just that. You start by making your way down a tree-lined driveway, where you’re welcomed by the most beautiful, authentic chateau, complete with its own infinity pool and lake. We loved how private and spacious the venue was and how it had the perfect blend of original features with a modern high-end twist.

How did you plan your wedding from overseas:

We took a few trips to the venue location to help us determine how we wanted to dress the venue, taste food etc – this is an absolute must to do we believe as it helps you picture what you want for your special day and what guests will experience.

What is the best memory of your day?

Seeing everyone you love in the same room after COVID. No words can describe it. That and Vic’s dad having the room in fits of laughter with his speech.

We also had THE BEST Photographer/Videographer, Mark from Awardweddings. He stole the show, capturing not only the most beautiful photos/videos but the hearts of all of our guests!

What were your inspiration and decoration ideas?

We wanted to go for a theme that was as classic and beautiful as the venue so we opted for black tie for the wedding party and guests. That said, we are both northern with a good sense of humor so injected some fun into the event, using props such as lawn games, a funny caricature cake topper, blow-up bride/groom swans for the pool, fun cocktails, etc.
