We have a charming Saint Emilion wedding to share with you today planned by Alexandra of The Bijou Bride that’s giving us all the feels of summer. It’s the perfect nod to those late warm summer evenings filled with golden light, idyllic!
Discovering the Magic of Saint Emilion: A Perfect Wedding Destination
Located a stone’s throw from the city of Bordeaux, ideal for international guests, Saint Emilion is a small medieval town. It’s famous for delicious wine and for its magnificent chateaux and vineyards which Maja and Alex used beautifully in their couple portraits, captured wonderfully by Sanshine Photography.
The Love Story Behind Maja and Alex’s Saint Emilion Wedding
We’ll now pass you over to our bride Maja who will be walking us through her Saint Emilion wedding, including a few top tips…
Why Saint Emilion is the Ideal Choice for International Guests
We had been visiting Saint Emilion for several years before the wedding, which was somewhat strange for us as a couple big on travel adventure. We are constantly hungry for new destinations in a hunt to see as many corners of the world as possible, so it was unusual for us to return to a place every single year – until we found Saint Emilion and all its charm.
Living a busy life in London, Saint Emilion offered a welcome change of pace (and amazing food, wine and views!) and we loved to visit as often as we could. Alex proposed there, in our special place, and so when it came time to pick a wedding location – no other place could contend. This was the place where we wanted to get married and it truly felt like a gift to our friends and families to discover this special place with them.
From Proposal to ‘I Do’: The Journey to Chateau Tour Saint Christophe
If we had to choose one moment as our favourite, it would probably be the moment we walked into our beautiful venue, Chateau Tour Saint Christophe, on the wedding day. Not only is it amazing to finally see all the planning and visions come together in our “perfect place”, but more importantly it was the one and only time in our lives that we got to see all the people we love, from different stages of each of our lives, all in one place together – in our favourite place in the world, at that! When else does something so amazing happen? It’s like our lives’ moments flashed before us with all of these different people there while taking the next step and milestone in our lives together.
A Unique Wine Ceremony: Blending Cultures in Saint Emilion
We also loved the wine ceremony we had, combining wines from our two cultures, as well as the “golden hour” for photographs, where we got a brief moment to be ourselves and be silly for a bit – a moment to catch up just the two of us (almost just the two of us!) and realize what a day it had already been.
A Personal Touch: Maja’s Top Tips for Planning a Wedding in France
Our tips for other couples planning in France are…
- If you are choosing a wedding planner, they do not need to speak French or be based locally – this was something we were unsure about at first. Connecting with your planner is much more important than a potential supplier’s language barrier.
- Enjoy the planning visits to your location because they are not just there for to-do lists, but they’re also chances to enjoy that beautiful place you chose!
- The perfect venue can be difficult to find but keep at it and remember why you chose your location in the first place if you get overwhelmed.
- Remember, all the food and wine is so incredible in France, so this is something not to worry or stress about in this amazing wedding location!
