About This Venue
A 1771 manor house hotel in Morzine, French Alps
Hotel Coutettaz is a boutique hotel in Morzine, in Haute-Savoie in the French Alps, set in a manor house built in 1771. The hotel is hired on an exclusive-use basis for a wedding weekend. Ceremonies take place in the garden, which takes up to 150 guests and looks towards the mountains.
Dinner is served in the dining room, which seats 90, or in a stretch tent in the garden, which seats 150 and can be added with heating, lighting and flooring. If it rains, the ceremony moves into the tent, or into the dining room for a smaller group. The hotel also hosts elopements and vow renewals.
Catering is in-house only: the hotel's chef cooks a seasonal menu from local produce, and caters for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free diets. A tasting meal is included. Drinks come from the hotel, and couples cannot bring their own wine. Wedding coordination is also in-house, the team keeps a list of recommended suppliers, and staff speak French and English.
The hotel has 11 bedrooms sleeping 30 guests. The bridal suite, Atelier, is a former workshop with exposed beams, an open-plan bathroom and a roll-top bath. A typical weekend starts with a Friday welcome dinner, followed by the ceremony and reception on Saturday and a brunch or barbecue on Sunday. Weddings take place in summer and winter. Geneva Airport is about 90 minutes away, and a shuttle service is available.

The Venue History
1771 · Historic Alpine manor house
According to the hotel, the house is the oldest standing building in Morzine. It was built in 1771, during the reign of Louis XV, by Antoine Plagnat, a local man prominent in the slate mining that the village was built on. He paid for the house with his mining profits. At the time, one half housed his family and the other his cattle in winter. The house then passed to the Baud family, lawyers and solicitors whose members over the next 200 years included the village's mayor. The Bauds added many of the rooms that are now bedrooms, among them workshops for seamstresses, cobblers and carpenters, and a traditional mazot. The current owner, Dorrien Ricardo, has renovated the house and grounds, keeping the dark wooden beams and Morzine slate floors.
