What better way to round of the real wedding week with a romantic Parisian elopement that was planned in only a few short months. With the help of their Paris based wedding planner Les Demoiselles De Madame, Julia and Stephen planned their dream wedding in Paris from their home in China.
From the couple: “We met in New York in 2008 and have since been, together and apart, all over the world. Through several countries and over five years we created a relationship that allows us to feel at home wherever we are. We now live in China, and when we got engaged we knew that we wanted a wedding that would reflect our personalities and the journey we have taken together.
We knew our priorities: the people we love, a beautiful venue, and plenty of food and wine. We also knew that we would have to keep it simple because we were going to plan this wedding from afar. So we called our closest friends and asked if they could make it to Paris for a weekend in March. We wanted to keep the event unfussy and small, but still romantic. We then sprung the plan on our (delighted) parents, and a few short months after getting engaged, we were on the plane to France to celebrate our wedding!
Our venue was in the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, in the beautiful Pavillon du Lac restaurant. The landscape of the park and the clean, white and open space of the restaurant inspired a very minimalist, natural theme. White and green flowers with dark blue berries tied the bride’s bouquet, the boutonnieres and the table arrangements together, while candles and lanterns added a warm touch. The windows of the room where we ate lunch looked over the park and let in the afternoon light – just like spring, everything was fresh and clean.
We didn’t arrive in Paris until two days before the ceremony, so we left almost all of the planning decisions in the capable hands of Les Demoiselles. We trusted them completely to take care of our day, and we were not disappointed! Over the months leading up to the ceremony, we had several calls with Les Demoiselles, and we found ourselves often telling them “Do what you think is best!”
As soon as we walked into the venue we knew that we had made the right decision and the day went as smoothly as ever – everyone was charmed with the place, the decorations and the food. We felt like we had a perfect celebration for ourselves and our family and friends.
The ceremony took place on the terrace of the restaurant, and was short and sweet. Our families took part by reading passages from meaningful books that offered advice and reflections on marriage. The small group present made it feel intimate and special; even our officiant was a friend. The morning sun cast a perfect glow over everything, and our guests got to know each other over champagne and canapés on the terrace before lunch.
The lunch menu was traditional French, complete with a French wedding cake – it was so much fun to celebrate the traditions of our host country, and to enjoy the delicious cuisine. Following a leisurely meal, we walked across the park to another venue, where we enjoyed drinks outside until the early hours of the morning.”
