Location: 1 hour from Marseille, Provence, South of France
Carol and Richard gathered loved ones one hour from Marseille, choosing Gordes for its height, views, and clear spring light. Airelles Gordes Hotel, a 5-star terraced hilltop wedding retreat with stone arcades and sweeping valley outlooks, offered layered gardens and dining spaces that faced the Luberon. The American couple honored Chinese heritage through thoughtful restraint, soft pacing, and a palette of white, taupe, blue, and lilac that matched the season. Guests followed clipped paths, heard birdsong carry over the walls, and watched the afternoon shift to evening. This renovated 18th-century castlel anchored movement from preparation to cocktails, then to a garden ceremony framed by the South of France landscape.

A Garden Ceremony with Terracotta, Herbs, and Light Peach Foxtail Lilies
The ceremony read natural and precise at once. Terracotta pots held loose, field-leaning arrangements that shaped the aisle without blocking the view. Foxtail lilies in pale peach rose between Mediterranean herbs while local blooms added scent and texture. White seating kept the sightline clear as vows began and breeze moved through the hedges. Touches of lilac and blue marked placement cards and ribbons, a nod to hillside tones. Airelles Gordes Hotel appeared throughout portraits, its stone and terraces giving scale as the party crossed from garden to overlook for family photos and first toasts under a cool spring sky.
Contemporary Restraint, Japanese Notes, and Valley-Facing Dining
Dinner flowed from terrace to dining room as the setting sun lit the valley below. The design leaned toward Japanese restraint, using negative space and balanced proportions to highlight air and view. Tables featured white blooms and fresh herbs, glassware reflecting the fading light. Amélie of Despinoy Wedding, among the most sought-after wedding planners in France, orchestrated each transition with quiet precision, ensuring movement between spaces felt natural. The celebration was captured by Stepan Vrzala, one of the top international wedding photographers in Provence, whose imagery traced the gentle rhythm of the evening across terraces and stone corridors.
