Hidden away from the prying eyes in the rolling hills of cypress and olive trees of Grasse, in a converted monastery dating from the 18th century, lies a luxury renovated house. Finally available again for rental since Coluche rented it in the swinging seventies, a property whose stone walls whisper secrets of famed faces who have stayed here. Each façade, each stone captivating, as captivating as our couple and their intimacy.

Miriam – the glamorous bride in her towering silver stilettos and baby blue sequinned ‘Jessica Rabbit’ style floor-length dress, custom-made for her petite figure, mesmerised her Italian groom, Alexis, with fluttering eyelashes, her dark locks perfectly coiffed, alluring airs and Bykovs diamond encrusted jewellery worthy of a princess. Yet her fate is one very different of that of a princess, married to a gangster.

A gangster who nevertheless, will shower his doll with priceless gifts including the beautiful incarnation of the natural perfect symmetry and life’s evanescence; bespoke butterfly jewellery. Skillfully eternalised in the form of a charming ring encrusted with sapphires, diamonds and pink opal by Bykovs Jewellery.

As the couple were captured, they encapsulated the very essence of a Provence affair in the beautiful gardens of the sublime property. Nature awoke its Spring calling to release bird song and butterflies matching the jewellery taking flight from hidden nooks and crooks of the 100-year olive trees and cypresses that swayed in the light breeze. A quiet moment of exchange captured as the loved couple admired the treasures adorning the delicate bride while seated under the olive trees by an abandoned fountain. Meanwhile, the groom dressed casually in a vintage look from the 20s, with a ‘je ne sais quoi’ attitude, reflective of his new found status as a husband to a wife whose every whim and need he look after. He would sacrifice himself for his bride. Even dressing down to elevate his treasured love for she is the star of the show. Their show.

If Grasse’s jasmine is just as iconic as the May Rose, it’s because it’s a key ingredient in one of the world’s most famous perfumes: Chanel N°5, the scent filling each room that the bride would leave behind her as she evocatively glided through the 4090 sq. ft and made her presence felt. History awoke through the very steps taken by this lady of grace.

It was the setting for the perfect mafia style styled wedding, awakening romance tinged with melancholy for the fate of those living on the edge is one never long-lived. The indulgences and luxury evoked epitomised the ambiance. The golden light of the setting sun over the neighbouring Châteauneuf de Grasse sleepy hill-top village concluded a truly spectacular
day with breathtaking scenes. “Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” came to mind.
