A Vedic Ceremony and Bollywood Dancing at Hôtel Crillon le Brave

Vineeta first saw Anil on stage at the University of Pennsylvania, singing with Penn Masala, the South Asian a cappella group. She told her mother on the spot that she would date him. Years later in New York, a mutual friend set them up at Sweet & Vicious in Nolita. After an engagement celebration with both families in the Loire Valley, Anil proposed in Paris; a year later Vineeta proposed in Central Park.

They put their plans on hold to be with Vineeta's father during his illness. He passed away, and they returned to marry in France, where they had celebrated their engagement with him.

For three days at the height of the Provençal summer, they brought 80 guests to Hôtel Crillon le Brave, one of the intimate wedding venues in Provence we feature and listed in our guide to Provence wedding venues. They had the hotel almost entirely to themselves. They wanted the celebration to feel less like an event to attend than a stay at a home with everyone they love.

The ceremony took place in front of an old stone doorway, which La Blonde et le Barbu framed with white flowers and trailing greenery. Anil's father and Vineeta's mother officiated, following Vedic and Arya Samaj traditions. Vineeta is Punjabi and Anil has Telugu and Kannada roots, and the Sanskrit and Telugu verses were translated into English so that every guest could follow.

Their siblings walked in the processional. Vineeta came down the aisle to the sound of Anil's voice, on his own recordings of Dekha Tenu and Jashn-e-Bahaaraa; she had first heard him sing Jashn-e-Bahaaraa with Penn Masala in college.

Vineeta's father, whose wedding band Anil wore, was honoured with an empty chair and with the Gayatri mantra, chanted three times.

Vineeta's lehenga for the vows was a custom ivory and gold design by Seema Gujral, with a train and an extra-long veil, and she added her grandmother's gold bangles. JM Ronquillo Glam Team styled her hair in a soft low bun. Anil matched her in an ivory sherwani, also by Seema Gujral.

For dinner she changed into an ice-blue haute couture gown by Ralph & Russo, from its Spring/Summer 2016 collection. Zendaya had worn the design in Paris before her, and Raffe by Nikki Reynen sourced Vineeta's. Her hair was restyled half-up, half-down, and Anil changed into a navy velvet tuxedo by P.N. Rao.

The welcome dinner opened the celebrations with live cooking stations, serving dishes that included black truffle croque volaille and flame-grilled octopus. For the reception, long tables were laid on the terrace of La Table du Ventoux, facing the mountains. La Blonde et le Barbu placed white and green flowers among the candlelight, and blue accents picked up the ice blue of Vineeta's couture. The kitchen served a multi-course regional menu, and a towering croquembouche from L'Arbre aux Gourmandises took the place of a wedding cake.

The Sugar Daddies played Piaf and Motown. Wildfire DJs kept everyone dancing to Bollywood and EDM until 2am, with mini croque-monsieurs at midnight.

Hôtel Crillon le Brave sits in a hilltop village overlooking vineyards, olive groves and Mont Ventoux. From the hilltop, guests visited the market in Carpentras and toured the countryside in vintage cars from Provence Classics. At the hotel, the pool hosted a party, and the weekend closed beside it with a Pyjamas & Pastis screening of The Parent Trap under the stars.
