An Open-Air Wedding with Calla Lilies at Le Petit Roulet

Jolien and Maxime fell for Le Petit Roulet at once, for what the bride calls "the venue's romantic feel and its classic Provençal style". Being outside mattered just as much. She wanted "to eat outdoors and to hold most of the celebration outside too", and the 16th-century farmhouse wedding venue near Cavaillon has a courtyard shaded by century-old plane trees, olive groves around it, and a swimming pool.

They turned it into a two-day wedding. White flowers led the design, above all the calla lily, with touches of bordeaux, their favourite colour, here and there. The bride wore a dress designed and made by her friend Astrid Van Hemeldonck, and the groom chose an all-white suit. There was a champagne fountain, a band played through the reception and dinner, and the day after the wedding they hosted a pool party with their guests. In the evening there were espresso martinis, the bride's favourite cocktail, to close out the day.

The weather had been the uncertain part. The forecast looked bad, and so much of the weekend was planned outdoors. In the end it was 28 degrees with some cloud.

The bride's dress was designed and made by a good friend, Astrid Van Hemeldonck, who drew on the work of Filipino designer Monique Lhuillier. They chose the fabrics together, settling on a subtle grid pattern that suited her minimalist style. The design is a bandeau dress, with a detachable train at the back and matching sleeves.

Her shoes were by Lola Cruz, and Charlene Dolo did the hair and makeup. The groom also wore white: an all-white suit from Suitsupply, with a bow tie by Brunello Cucinelli. In the bride's words, it "fit the light, summery setting perfectly".

A band played through the reception, and there was a champagne fountain, which the bride calls "a festive accent that sat nicely within the elegant setting".

Dinner was on the terrace beneath the trees, with Mets des Lys catering and the band still playing. Eating outdoors was part of what the bride wanted most from the day. It was a warm summer's day, and their main wish was for everyone to feel relaxed. "Above all, we wanted everyone to be able to enjoy themselves: good food, music, and time spent together in that beautiful place."

White Flowers, Calla Lilies and a Touch of Bordeaux

If one flower defines the wedding, it is the calla lily. Les Fleurs de Ninon did the flowers, and the couple chose mainly white, to keep everything understated, with bordeaux added here and there. The calla lily, in the bride's words, "took centre stage and reappeared in the bridal bouquet, on the invitations, and throughout the flowers and decoration all day long."

Le Petit Roulet is a 16th-century fortified farmhouse in the Vaucluse, about 25 minutes from Avignon, and it is given over entirely to weddings. Arrow slits are still visible in the barn walls, a trace of its fortified past. It is one of the venues we feature for wedding venues in Provence.

Outside, a large courtyard is shaded by century-old plane and linden trees, the estate is framed by cypress and olive groves, and there is a swimming pool with a shaded area beside it, which puts the estate among our wedding venues with a pool in Provence. It hosts one wedding at a time, for up to 120 guests, and in peak season it is hired for a minimum of three nights.
