Romantic wedding at Chateau Massillan in Provence

Welcome to Wednesday and I have a super romantic wedding at Chateau Massillan to share with you today, from the heart of Provence and captured by ChrisSpiraPhotography. Today’s couple Mia & Sebastiaan of Zurich based brands Townhouse and Pelikamo , met at university and have been together many years, before taking the plunge and getting engaged.

Exactly one year later they planned their wedding at the beautiful Chateau Massillan in the heart of Provence set in amongst 24 acres of Parkland.

Bride Mia takes us through their love story and big day: “For our wedding we got married in our favourite hotel Chateau Massillan in Provence, France. We’ve spent many of our loveliest summers there. Sebastiaan and I have been together for over 13 years and when we visited Chateau Massillan for the first time roughly 8 years ago, we had found our perfect place.

It has been beautifully renovated, the hotel gardens are stunning and it is located in the picturesque setting amidst lavender fields in Provence. But what we love most about the hotel is its personal touch. It has an uncomplicated elegance to it, which we love. And we adore the inner courtyard –there is a beautiful small pool and in the evenings you can have dinner under the stars.

The food is astounding, we love it. For us there was never a doubt that this was the place we would get married, the only uncertainty was the limited number of rooms the hotel offers. For us it was crucial to have all guests staying at the same place, so when the hotel allowed us to set up luxury tents with Blue Bell Tents for half of our guests in the hotel garden, we were all set.

When choosing a style, we spend a fair amount of our time trying to focus on what is really important to us. Everyone has a different view on perfection, every day we try to live our version of it. We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of who we really are and of what we truly like. In every dish that was served, in every song that was played we wanted our guests to feel “us”and for it all to make sense, but in a very unpretentious way.

For the wedding we didn’t follow any rules. We didn’t have a wedding dance, I didn’t throw the bridal bouquet. We just did what felt right for us.

We wanted it to be a personal and intimate wedding to the fullest extent and we didn’t feel the urge to invite people that are not an integral part of our daily lives. There was a limited number of guests we were able to invite to due the restricted restaurant capacity, which helped us to really only focus on the people that are truly close to or hearts.

Keeping it personal meant that we also wanted to reduce the number of external suppliers. For music, we only had one band throughout the wedding weekend, which were close friends of Sebastiaan’s brother. Our ceremony was conducted by two friends in the garden of the hotel.

The whole wedding weekend from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon took place at the chateau, outdoors, which made it very relaxing. We didn’t have to leave the hotel grounds. Overall, we wanted an elegant, but very uncomplicated weekend.

We wanted our guests to really enjoy the weekend and we didn’t want any stress. We didn’t put any pressure on ourselves for this to be the most important day of our lives. We were relaxed, extremely happy and able to enjoy every moment of it. Rather than being nervous, we were laughing all along.

Our favourite part of the day was when the DJ was playing the last song, it was around 6 o’clock in the morning, around 15 people were still awake and dancing and we all stood in a circle and started singing.

That was the moment when it all came together and we realized that the whole wedding was all that we had ever hoped for. We had been enjoying every moment of the day, but there is still always the unexpected and not knowing what comes ahead. At that point we realized we would forever be looking back and knowing it was perfect.!
