As the photos from the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival start to come in, I love browsing through them and looking at the fashion but also to impecible beauty and often wonder about how to achieve this if you are a regular lady without beauty training. So I contacted the lovely Carey Hawkins Makeup to find out her recommendations for how to achieve a red carpet beauty look without the red carpet price tag.
Carey Hawkins: “Everyone knows the secret behind the amazing looks of the celebrities who walk down the red carpets with a gorgeous ‘inner glow.’ Behind these fabulous hairstyles, dresses and make up creations are a team of stylists, personal trainers, professional make up artists and beauticians. The average girl can only dream of such fantastic pampering but we are here to tell you these glamorous make up looks are available to everyone and you don’t need to break the bank to achieve them.
Let’s start with the skin. It is really important that you start with a good exfoliate, cleanse, tone and moisturize before you begin this process. This provides a smooth and even base for the make up. A wonderful make up base and ‘glow giving’ moisturiser is the beautiful Wild Rose Smoothing Day Cream from Weleda – completely natural ingredients and a heavenly smell.
Then base. L’Oreal True Match Mineral make up gives great coverage, looks natural and is good for the skin. Give extra coverage and even out skin tone by adding cover around the eyes, nose, cover redness and blemishes with a concealer. Try the matching L’Oreal Minerals concealer and apply where you need it.
Keep eyes simple with golden brown shadow or soft grey on lid and take under the eye like eyeliner for extra definition. Top with a black liner into the roots of the top lashes (smudge with finger to create smokey look) and lashings of mascara. I go back time and time again to Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara for amazing lashes.
Blend Bourjois Mineral Radiance Pressed Powder in Halé on the forehead, sides of face and apples of the cheeks and blend back towards ears. This gives a beautiful glow to the skin.
Finally a slick of beautiful pink to the lips will finish the look. My current favourite bargain busting lip treat e.l.f. Mineral moisturizing lip tint SPF8 in Rose – with no chemical nasties.
Of course this look is not complete without a smile and get ready for all those photographs and admiring glances!
Thanks to Carey Hawkins Makeup for her red carpet beauty on a budget. I have some new tools to add to my beauty toolkit and looking forward to get practicing.
