We need smellovision for today’s inspiration post for a French lavender wedding! There are many ways to incorporate French lavender into your wedding day, but with the help of FWS Sponsor and lavender expert Ruth from Daisy Gifts, she is going to show us some innovative fragrant wedding ideas.

Lavender originated near the Mediterranean, and still grows wild in some parts of Spain and Southern France. Visit the lavender fields of Provence in high summer and you will be treated to an unforgettable explosion of fragrance and colour.

Hardly surprising then, that more and more couples are wanting to include this experience in their French wedding. A little sachet of sweet smelling lavender makes an unusual favour which can be used to fragrance a drawer, or placed under a pillow. And the scent can be revived easily by giving the bag a little squeeze. Organza bags are available in a myriad of colours, so there is something to fit every colour scheme.

Why not try dried lavender as a unique wedding confetti? It throws like rice and confers luck and devotion on the happy couple. A suitable lavender for use as wedding confetti should be pale blue in colour and have a subtle perfume.

But it doesn’t end there! In the last few years there has been a strong trend for natural and vintage, with brides opting for dried flower table decorations and place settings, and even bridal bouquets and buttonholes. Dried flowers for weddings have the advantage of being able to be completed well in advance, with no threat of deteriorating during the day, and often a lower price tag than fresh. Opt for a simple lavender bouquet or mix it with other dried flowers for a more relaxed look.

Based in the UK, Daisy Gifts Ltd have developed links with a co-operative of lavender farmers from Provence and are able to sell their beautiful flowers and bunches around the world.  Ruth says: “We are contacted regularly by brides organising weddings in France and surprisingly finding it hard to source lavender locally. Of course, Britain too has a strong heritage in lavender growing, and it was a common sight in the South right up until the First World War. We have even supplied one or two weddings in Provence where a little English lavender is mixed with a little of the French!

Ruth truly is a lavender lover and all round lavender expert, working in dried flowers for over ten years.
