Decorating a shabby chic wedding on a budget

Shabby chic and vintage-style weddings are always a fantastic choice for a couple who want to add bags of personality to their special day, but don’t have a huge budget. One of the most fulfilling and exciting pastimes when planning this style of wedding is scouring charity and vintage shops to find beautiful vintage china and extras for the tables and marquee/venue and then complementing these original pieces with some of the fabulous vintage inspired items out there. The traditional phrase of ‘something old, something new..’ can be a great motto to follow when planning your big day as these vintage and antique extras provide authenticity.

So how do you go about decorating a shabby chic wedding on a budget?  All in the name of research for my shabby chic signs post I came across the delightful Through the Cottage Door website, full of gifts and homeware for shabby chic, country and vintage-styles.  Who better to advise on how to decorate on a budget then newly engaged owner of Through the Cottage Door Lis!

Having just got engaged myself, I am starting to realise how much of the budget goes into the main wedding staples, such as catering, venue and photographer, and how little is left over to add those all-important little touches. I have set myself a budget of £200 for the shabby chic extras of which I have always dreamed. I am allotting £50 from this budget to spend in charity and vintage shops and with the remaining £150, I intend to try and get as much for my money as I can to add quirky vintage-style charm to the flowers, the church, the marquee and myself!

For £150, you could buy the following from Through the Cottage Door (based on a wedding for 80 people):

shabby chic wedding purse

Small Linen Rose Wedding Purse £18.50

shabby chic bridal hair slide

Silk Lace Rose Wedding Hair Slide £22.50

Since Kate Middleton wore her famous lace sleeved dress, there is a huge call for lace and off colour accessories that look as though they have been plucked straight from a Jane Austen book. This hair slide and purse would add some vintage chic to a simple dress without overdoing it and won’t break the bank.
