Rustic Chic French Riviera Wedding

Rustic Chic French Riviera Wedding

Good Morning! It is our second real wedding of the week and we are heading off to the South of France for the rustic Chic French Riviera Wedding of Camila and Niels, with beautiful decoration by D’amour & de Déco and captured by Gregory of Reego Photographie

Camila and Niels met in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2012 and have been together forever since. Camila is a Brazilian architect. Niels is a French business risks consultant. They both live in London.

Niels proposed to Camila in August 2014. While on holidays in London, Niels proposed in the penthouse suite of the Cavendish hotel in London. The surprise scenario of the proposal was designed with the support of the hotel’s Concierge team. Camila said “yes” and the couple got started on the wedding preparation. Niels’ dream was to hold the religious ceremony at the church of the Biot village where he grew up on the Riviera. The church dates from the 15th century and was recently renovated.

For the dinner and party, the couple chose the Manoir de l’Etang, in Mougins. The “Manoir” is a 19th Provençal hotel located on a 3ha estate nearby the medieval village of Mougins, 20min from Biot. The Manoir offers 19 freshly decorated rooms and a fine restaurant, making it an ideal location to both host guests and cater for the dinner.

The wedding run over two days with about 95 guests. This included 35 family guests hosted at the Manoir and the remaining visiting friends staying at the Mas du Golf, a hotel about 10min walk from the Manoir. One of the key objectives for the wedding was that as few guests as possible would have to drive back on the night.

In a typical Provençal tradition, an “aperitif” (champagne, spirits and finger food) was served to the guests on Friday evening, allowing for the families on both sides to meet before the actual wedding the next day. The religious ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon, followed by the dinner and party at the privatised Manoir. A coach bus transported the guests between Biot and Mougins. After the party Camila and Niels flew to Greece for their honeymoon.

The style of the wedding was “Rustic Chic”, with a Provençal touch. Resources for inspiration were found on pinterest, and French blogs focused on “Champetre Chic” wedding styles.

Key Tips for organizing a wedding in France:

“Few suppliers speak English, so French language is a must.

There is a lot of paperwork and preparation involved in preparing the religious ceremony. Hosting the ceremony at the church is at the discretion of the local parish and couple candidates need to demonstrate a true and genuine commitment, in addition to fulfilling several prerequisites to qualify.

Binational couples can have different views on traditions and cultural context, which can prove straining if not addressed early on. In our case, the wedding was entirely bilingual (including all stationary, speeches, the Church ceremony, etc) which means a lot of translation and review work. See example of our bilingual wedding website here: nielsetcamila.wix.com/mariage. There are no such bilingual platform on the market and we built our website from scratch.
