Fleur-de-lis or fleur-de-lys as it is sometimes spelt, is the “flower of the lily” or symbol depicting a stylized lily. The Fleur-de-lis has long been associated with French sovereignty, as well as English kings later using the symbol on their coats of arms to emphasize their claims to the throne of France.
In recent times it has also become a symbol of intrigue and mystery following its role in The DaVinci Code referring to the Priory of Sion. A fraternal organisation and secret organisation devoted to installing a secret bloodline of the Merovingian dynasty on the thrones of France. It would take more than just a mention here as to whether you believe in the Priory or not, but the Fleur-de-lis has become their public persona.
